Estimating Redcedar (Juniperus virginiana) Biomass in Northeastern Kansas

Eastern Redcedar (Juniperus virginiana) has been growing rapidly across the United States; and Kansas’ Tall Grass Prairie in particular (Norris, Johnson, Blair, 2001). This decreases the amount of both prairie and crop land across the state. Its presence in the prairie has lead to discussions about how the species should be maintained, put to use, or eradicated completely. More recently, the idea of utilizing Redcedar as a source of biofuel energy has become a key talking point in several arenas (McKinley, 2012).
